You may have wondered why Sunday Brunch? Why would I choose this imagery for something that is clearly not literal? I never post about food (not that I wouldn't). There is never any mention of anything that has to do with an actual brunch on a Sunday. This week, allow me to explain.
Sunday Brunch is a whole vibe. By that I mean it is so much more than the sum of its parts. What are the things you love about going out (or staying in) for brunch? The delicious food, seeing your loved ones, having meaningful conversations, sipping bottomless mimosas? Take all of those pieces together and they add to become a sacred practice.
Through the ages, Sunday has always been a particularly special day. For some, it’s thought of as the day of rest, or a day reserved for spirituality. For others it’s a day for adventurous hikes or shopping sprees. And still for others, it’s a day for home improvement projects, last minute essay writing, or binge-watching some bad reality TV with your favorite person. Sunday is emblematic of all of that. That’s a heavy load for one day of the week.
For me, Sundays encompass all the possibilities in the world. The way you spend your Sunday sets the tone for the rest of the week. That’s why I think it’s important to take time on Sundays to reflect on the past week, set intentions for the week ahead, and clear the clutter from you soul in a thoughtful way.
One thing about me: I’m ALWAYS down for brunch. Ask anyone. Going to an actual brunch on a Sunday with a group of your best friends is soul-cleansing and perfect. The beauty of sharing a meal with those you love is compounded by the sense of possibility that only a Sunday can give. And in a year where going to an actual brunch is ill-advised, it became important to me to bring that experience back into my life, and share it with my loved ones. That’s you.
So, that’s pretty much it. This newsletter has really become a way for me to concentrate everything that I love about Sundays into a sometimes too wordy, sometimes too short, sometimes positive, and sometimes not so positive little world here. For me, it’s a chance to be reflective and feel that sense of spirituality that Sunday’s have always given me. For you, I hope it gives you a small sense of community, or a chance to unwind or wind up.
I hope this is a good thing for both of us.
happy sunday. 🌞
What are Sundays for if not a refreshing daytime cocktail with a side of conversation?
Think of this newsletter as a Sunday brunch with friends, a space where we unwind from the past week, and gear up for the week ahead.
If you’re enjoying sunday brunch, think of three friends who would enjoy and share it with them.
